Over the past week we have watched and heard the news coming out of Ukraine with shock and sadness.
Leicester is home to many thousands of people from Ukraine, Russia and surrounding countries and some of these study and work at our university.
We have contacted all our students affected directly to offer support, but we know anxieties about the situation will be felt by many other people too and we wanted to remind our community how to access 51³Ô¹Ïapp’s support services.
You can make a confidential appointment with our Wellbeing team or email directly via wellbeing@dmu.ac.uk. International Student Support is also available and you can make an appointment through MyGateway or email the team on iss@dmu.ac.uk.
In line with the support we have offered for recent crises in Afghanistan, Syria and around the world, the university is working on plans to set up a collection point for donations of goods at the DSU and then we will organise transfer from there to a city/county collection point. We will provide a list of items that people can donate and more details very soon. In the meantime, staff or students with any questions about how to support the appeal can email local@dmu.ac.uk.
Our Students’ Union, DSU, are mobilising student groups in 51³Ô¹Ïapp and other Midlands universities for collective student action and will share their plans on their and shortly. DSU’s Executive Officers are encouraging all students to reach out to them with ideas and want to also remind students that they have access to a free and independent support service via the DSU. They are on hand and ready to assist any students who have been impacted by what is happening in Ukraine. To book an appointment visit .
There are also many international organisations coordinating appeals on behalf of Ukraine, including:
We hope a peaceful resolution will be reached quickly and we will continue to offer support to those affected throughout this crisis.
