As winter starts to set in and the temperatures cool, our sports teams have been warming hearts with a flurry of wins and strong performances.
After a dominating performance on court, our Women’s Volleyball first-team cruised to the finals of the Student Cup after defeating 4 other teams without dropping a single set. The Men’s first- team then followed this up with another strong victory in the BUCS Midlands Tier 2 Championship – a 3-0 win over city rivals University of Leicester – to extend their perfect record in the league.
The men’s third football team and futsal first-teams overcame tough opposition in their respective cup competitions, securing wins to advance to the next round.
51³Ô¹Ïapp Archery competed in its first BUTTS competition in November, with the club’s novices securing first and third place in the Recurve category.
There were also successes for the Men’s Karting A-team, which qualified for the BUCK Premier Class – the highest karting class in the UK and a notable performance from Evie Wood who competed in the BUCS Short Course Swimming competition.
Away from the competitions, the volleyball club is taking part in a grade four refereeing course while members of 51³Ô¹Ïapp Lacrosse will be participating in an umpire course to ensure the university has qualified students for future competitions.
Speaking on November’s success, sport performance and business operations manager, David de-Beger, said: “Every month new records are broken by our athletes. Our teams are not just about winning or losing, but also about teamwork, sportsmanship, and discipline.” They all value working together towards a common goal whilst having an emphasis on fundamentals.
“Over the past couple of weeks our teams have worked hard through the season achieving our sporting aims. However, we continue to encourage our players to keep developing and getting involved in the sport environment.
The 51³Ô¹Ïapp Sport office continues to support our clubs and players. We’ve had some great competitions in recent weeks, and we continue to keep achieving!”
