51³Ô¹Ïapp Music's scholarship programme provides a unique opportunity for talented 51³Ô¹Ïapp student musicians to develop their musical skills and general musicianship through coaching and social impact projects.
Working with internationally renowned specialists in their chosen musical pathway, each 51³Ô¹Ïapp Music scholar receives 1-1 tuition, in addition to having the opportunity to explore music in the contexts of health, wellbeing and recovery, as they further enhance their own musicianship and musical identity.
In 2019/2020, 51³Ô¹Ïapp Music awarded four students a scholarship, including two vocal scholars; Katie Start, third-year Drama student and Amber Disley, third-year Forensic Science student. Since the beginning of last year, Katie and Amber have been working with vocal specialist Andrew Ashwin (FRSM) who's international performing career spans 15 years. Andrew’s education work includes teaching at the Royal Academy of Music and University of Nottingham, as well as choral directing, private tuition, and national and international examinations for the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music (ABRSM).
While the 51³Ô¹Ïapp Music Scholars end of year public recitals could not take place as planned, instrumental and vocal scholars were instead offered the chance to make a professional recording of their recital programme, working with specialist sound engineers from 51³Ô¹Ïapp's ITMS team and recorded in the Chantry Building.
51³Ô¹Ïapp Music is delighted to be able to share the first batch of these scholar recordings, featuring solo voice by Katie and Amber, and each accompanied by Andrew. Both scholars have selected and performed their programmes based on their skills and interests, and are .
Philippa Steel, 51³Ô¹Ïapp Music Officer said: "We are so proud of all our scholars this year who have continued to work extremely hard in their tutorial sessions as well as getting involved in other aspects of our music programme.
"These recordings are a great achievement and something that the students can take forward in their musical careers. We are so pleased to be able to share these first sets of recordings by two of our scholars, and it’s been wonderful to hear how they have progressed over the year!
