51³Ô¹Ïapp Pride 2022 celebrations - what's on

This year will see the eighth annual #51³Ô¹Ïapppride celebrations held on campus, across Leicester and online, with an exciting month of diverse events taking place throughout February to mark .

Pride 2022 560

Running from Tuesday 1 to Monday 28 February, the in-person and online events are designed to raise awareness and celebrate the achievements of the LGBTQ+ community.

Bethan Rogoyski, Chair of 51³Ô¹Ïapp's LGBTQ+ and Allies Staff Network, said: "51³Ô¹Ïapp Pride 2022 promises to be a vibrant and varied festival, jam-packed with diverse events that are truly representative of our LGBTQ+ community here at the university, as well as engaging with LGBTQ+ themes and issues in a wider sense.

"With our events programme including an intersectional bi panel discussion, a film night and Q&A at Phoenix Leicester, an event collaboration with Curve Leicester, links with Leicester Comedy Festival, a social ramble around LGBTQ+ spots in the city centre, a focus on pronouns, a trans and non-binary academic research showcase and a Pride History quiz night with DSU – plus much more – we feel confident that there will be something for everyone to get involved with.

"We are greatly looking forward to celebrating and embracing identity, inclusion and diversity with our LGBTQ+ community and allies across 51³Ô¹Ïapp and Leicester, and we trust that 51³Ô¹Ïapp Pride 2022 will continue to provide stimulation and enrichment for our staff and students as a whole throughout the coming year."

This year's highlights also include an 'in conversation' event with Charlie Martin, a British racing car driver and transgender rights activist, who made LGBTQ+ history in 2020 as the first ever transgender driver to compete in the ADAC TOTAL 24hr Nürburgring-Rennen, where she finished 4th in class racing a BMW M240i.
