Following the success of our Black History Month 2021 programme, the Stephen Lawrence Research Centre (SLRC) at 51³Ô¹Ïapp has extended its current art exhibition to run until Thursday 11 November.
Produced in partnership with the National Education Union, ‘Celebrating 30 Black educators over 30 years in Leicester’ is a photography installation that highlights the work, contributions and achievements of individuals who have positively influenced our city’s education sector in recent years.
The exhibition commemorates 30 years since the introduction of Black Teachers Sections in the Legacy National Union of Teachers (NUT) and tells the stories of Black educators in Leicester to inspire young people and new teachers in their own journeys.
This vision was brought to life by GP Designs & Artwork’s lead arts co-ordinator Georgina Payne, Nigerian fashion editorial photographer MaryAnn Ezeh, and local educators Julie Walters-Nisbet and Camille London-Myo to highlight the presence of Black educators in Leicester.
The exhibition is open Monday to Thursday, 1–4pm at the SLRC in the Hugh Aston Building on campus, and is free of charge.
