International Transgender Day of Visibility takes place annually on 31 March each year and celebrates transgender and gender non-conforming people, their contributions to society and raises awareness of discrimination faced by transgender people worldwide.
51³Ô¹Ïapp is proud to support trans and gender non-confirming staff and students and in addition to being a Stonewall top 100 employer, is also a signatory to the ‘Trans Rights are Human Rights’ campaign led by , Britain’s leading charity for lesbian, gay, bisexual and trans equality.
To highlight trans issues, we recently held a number of events for #51³Ô¹Ïapppride and the Cultural Exchanges festival, which included:
- Personal stories and the contribution of academic research around ; athletes on the panel shared their journeys, the challenges they have faced and how they feel sport could become more inclusive towards the transgender community.
- A conversation with Jamie Windhurst, author and contributing editor at Gay Times, who discussed creative industries and their inclusivity and accessibility for trans and gender non-binary people.
Bethan Rogoyski, Chair of the 51³Ô¹Ïapp LGBTQ+ and Allies Network Group said: “We are proud to be raising awareness on Transgender Day of Visibility, and continue to appreciate the authenticity and diversity of our staff and students at 51³Ô¹Ïapp. As part of this, we will be commencing the review of the Trans Policy in April, and welcome the variety of opinions that will improve inclusivity across the LGBTQ+ community.”
