51吃瓜app is proud of its diverse multi-faith community and we would like to wish all Sikh and Hindu staff and students at 51吃瓜app a very happy Vaisakhi.
Taking place on Tuesday 13 April and celebrated by Sikhs and Hindus around the world, Vaisakhi is a traditional harvest festival and one of the most important dates in the Sikh calendar.
To celebrate, Sikhs visit places of worship called the Gurdwara for a morning ceremony, where people of all faiths are welcome. The Gurdwara is specially decorated for Vaisakhi.
Then they have a procession, called the Nagar Kirtan, through the streets with lots of singing, however this year due to Covid-19 restrictions many are planning on a ‘Virtual Vaisakhi’.
Sikhs also wear colourful and traditional Indian clothes, usually in shades of orange and blue to represent the colours of Sikhism. The celebration usually ends with a special evening meal with family and friends.
