Students and staff are now able to make use of the new facility located in the inspiring centrepiece of 51³Ô¹Ïapp’s £136 million 51³Ô¹Ïapp Transformation Project, The Vijay Patel building.

Vice-Chancellor Professor Dominic Shellard was joined by 51³Ô¹Ïapp students and staff members as he cut the ribbon to officially open the venue.

He said: “Our drive for academic excellence and a fantastic student experience is at the core of what we do at 51³Ô¹Ïapp. The new Food Village is a wonderful place for students and staff to eat well and enjoy each other’s company.

“As a truly global university, I am particularly pleased to see a strong range of cuisines from all over the world on offer. I am sure this place will feature in many happy memories of student days at 51³Ô¹Ïapp, as our campus is transformed into one of the very best in the UK.”

Open Monday to Friday from 8am-8pm during term time, the Food Village serves breakfast, lunch and dinner, enabling those studying or working after hours to have a place to eat on campus.

Visitors will be spoiled for choice with pizza, freshly cooked pasta dishes, and an array of other main courses cooked fresh in front of you. There is also a dedicated Halal kitchen, and quick and easy options for those eating on the go.

Jassem Al-Kandari, a first year Foundation Business and Law student said: “I really like this new area, it’s very modern. I’ve just tried the food which is very good.”

Natalia Wilusz, a second year Law student said: “I really like the colours in here and the chairs are very comfortable. There’s a good variety of food on offer, I’m excited to try it.”

The new space provides seating for up to 350 people at any one time. USB charging points are available throughout the space.

The new Food Village is part of the £136 million campus transformation programme at 51³Ô¹Ïapp.
