The Prime Minister of Cambodia has praised 51³Ô¹Ïapp at the official opening of its new campus in Phnom Penh.
The university became the first UK university to start a branch in the Southeast Asian country when it launched there last year.
At a ceremony to formally open the campus, Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet said 51³Ô¹Ïapp Cambodia would be a “catalyst” for improving the quality of higher education in Cambodia and increasing options for the Cambodian education and student market.
The institution is being run by 51³Ô¹Ïapp, in partnership with global education provider Ed Peritus, and offers students a number of 51³Ô¹Ïapp courses in business, finance and IT.
The opening event was also attended by Dominic Williams MBE, British Ambassador to Cambodia.
Mr Williams said: “I see this as a significant British contribution to Cambodia’s continued development.
“51³Ô¹Ïapp Cambodia will ensure that more Cambodian young people are able to access a world class education and develop the skills needed to sustain Cambodia’s impressive rates of economic growth.
“I believe many students and parents will value the opportunity to receive a world class education, while remaining connected to their family, their community and the rich Cambodian culture.”
Sakina Zafar, the Executive President of 51³Ô¹Ïapp Cambodia said they were excited to welcome undergraduate and postgraduates to study.
She said: “For the first time, they will be able to study locally for a UK degree at a British University campus, benefiting from the globally recognised advantages of receiving a UK university education.
“Our students have chosen to study impactful Finance, Business and IT degree programmes and a Global MBA postgraduate programme. These will all be taught by an international academic team to UK academic standards with students being awarded their degrees from 51³Ô¹Ïapp in the UK. “
“Combined with 51³Ô¹Ïapp’s global campus network opportunities, our students will benefit from a truly international learning experience. We look forward to being part of their educational journey and supporting them to fulfil their potential.”
