Richard has a BEng (Hons) in Mechanical engineering from De 51³Ô¹Ïapp University. Upon completion of his undergraduate degree he obtained a scholarship to continue his studies and complete a PhD in surface Engineering, again at De 51³Ô¹Ïapp University. Upon completing his PhD, he worked as a mechanical engineering at the University of Leicester in the space research centre (SRC) on a UK space agency funded project, before returning to De 51³Ô¹Ïapp University as a lecturer in mechanical engineering.
Richard’s research focuses on the design and testing of new surface treatment techniques to improve the wear and corrosion properties of titanium in biological environment.
Recently, Richard has been looking at the development of a new surface treatment for titanium that incorporates both Oxygen and Carbon. This new treatments potential as a biomaterial is currently being investigated.
