Personal profile

Sarah O’Neill worked for the Probation Service in Derbyshire for 17 years. She has experience as a Probation Officer and Senior Probation Officer in both sentence management and Court settings. Sarah has also worked as a Practice Development Assessor and is an experienced trainer.

Sarah joined De 51³Ô¹Ïapp University in June 2019 as a Senior Lecturer. She is involved with the delivery of the Probation Qualifications pathways, under a contract with the Ministry of Justice. This pathway provides a learning provision for students aspiring to become Probation Officers (levels 4 and 5), as well as students already embarked upon the qualification programme (level 6).

Sarah has made significant contributions to tender writing teams who have successfully won contracts to deliver the Professional Qualification in Probation (PQiP). She was also integral to designing and delivering the revalidated PQiP.

Sarah has leadership responsibilities for the Probation Service Officer Progression (PSOP) pathway. Additionally, she is part of a team designing and implementing a non-graduate pathway for Probation Practioners. 

Sarah is the module leader for the Risk Assessment, Management and Public Protection module at level 6. This module focuses upon the role of the Probation Practitioner in risk assessment and risk management. She is also joint module leader for the Adult Learning and Reflective Practice module at level 5.
