Personal profile

Henry has extensive experience in teaching in higher education in the UK, which began in 2011. He has been a Visiting Lecturer at the University of Roehampton in the Business School. He has taught as an Associate Lecturer at the University of the West of Scotland in the School of Business and Enterprise. He is currently a senior lecturer in Human Resource Management and Organisational behaviour at De 51³Ô¹Ïapp University (51³Ô¹Ïapp). 

His academic experience includes programme leadership, module leadership, line management, external examination, personal tutoring, supervising both undergraduates and postgraduates, developing, designing, preparing and delivering of teaching, learning and assessment both at undergraduate and postgraduate levels.

Henry was a trainee helicopter pilot in the Zambia Air Force (ZAF) and was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant by the first President of Zambia the late Dr Kenneth David Kaunda in 1990. He has worked in the public, private and voluntary sector. Thus, having gained diverse experience in all the three sectors, Henry brings a unique and multifaceted perspective to teaching.

Research interests/expertise

Henry's main research focus is on Leadership, Human Resource Management (Employee engagement, employee voice and decent work), Human Resource Development (Critical perspective), Voluntary Sector and Community Research and HIV/AIDS. In addition, Henry has great interest in student engagement, assessment and deep learning.

Qualifications

Henry has a PhD in Leadership obtained at De 51³Ô¹Ïapp University, a Master’s Degree (MSc) in Voluntary Sector Management from Cass Business School (City University), Bachelor of Arts (BA) in Human Resource Management with Distinction obtained from the University of the West of Scotland, Postgraduate Diploma in Social Research Methods from University of Roehampton and University Certificate in Teaching and Learning in Higher Education from University of Roehampton.

Projects

QR Funding 2023/2024 (£4,000) Decent Work: This project aims to investigate sustainable decent work development and policy implementation in a post-covid-19 pandemic world of informal work in Ghana. It is being conducted, in collaboration with a major trade union, the Traders Advocacy Group Ghana (TAGG). It seeks to generate insights and knowledge to develop more effective strategies to support the development of sustainable decent work in the Ghanaian informal economy post Covid-19 pandemic to improve the socio-economic wellbeing of our gallant informal workers.

QR GCRF Funded project 2019/2020 (£25,000). Title of project: Secure and Trustworthy E-governance for enhanced and accessible public services in Africa (STEGA). The project aimed to tackle the issue of cyber security and the inadequate e-governance provision in most African countries using Nigeria and Zambia as case studies. It focused on addressing the long-standing problems of availability, coverage, policies and legislation, as well as emerging issues of security, privacy and trust.

Conference attendance

Henry has attended and presented at a number of conferences. Recently (19 September 2024), he presented a poster titled Enhancing Graduate Attributes through Music as a Pedagogical Tool in Teaching & Learning during the 51³Ô¹Ïapp Teaching & Learning Conference. 

Consultancy work

Henry has extensive experience providing consultancy services to individuals and organizations in the UK. His areas of consultancy have included Human Resources Management (HRM), Organizational Development (OD), fundraising, strategic planning, operational planning and support, HIV/AIDS, health and social care, leadership development and organizational learning.

Clients have included Divine Mercy Home, Positive Runway, Community Health Action Trust, African Women Care and CAFPH. Thus, Henry has strong links with the voluntary sector and SMEs in the UK.

For example at the Community Health Action Trust (CHAT) he developed the fundraising strategy that was fluid and dynamic encompassing some marketing plans for the organization. He employed different kinds of fundraising techniques to increase the income of the organization through trust and foundation fundraising, direct marketing, community fundraising and corporate relationship management. This was achieved through research, events, writing project proposals, and in some instances tenders.

At CHAT he raised £235,000 from the Big Lottery, £140,000 from the Kings Fund (research bid), £12,000 from Lloyds TSB Foundation, £4,000 from Brent Council and numerous other small grants. As a team member, Henry was involved in securing £50,000 per year for two years from Monument Trust, £60,000 per year for 3 years from Brent Social Services, £90,000 from Brent Primary Care Trust for the community clinic and £100,000 per year for 3 years from the same source for core services.

At the HIV/AIDS Association of Zambia (HAAZ) he also developed the organization and raised more than half a Million Pound from various sources.
