Dr Emily Baines is a Senior Lecturer teaching PhD, MA and undergraduate students. She specialises in creative industry analysis and strategy, textile and fashion history, sustainability (especially in the fashion and textile industries) and material culture theory.

MA teaching: fashion, product, corporate strategy and systems sustainability in ADHP 5201 Sustainability Strategy and Design; aspects of industry analysis, value structure, marketing strategy, corporate strategy in ADHP 5204 Business and Marketing Strategy; theory on cultural identity, class and social group, gender and the body in the Cultural Contexts series in Research Methodology modules; creative and customer-focused innovation workshops in ADHP 5205 Design Problem Solving; dissertation supervision in DIDM 5004 Major Project - Dissertstion and FSMM 5004 Major Project - Dissertstion.

Undergraduate teaching: Global textile history from c1100BCE to the present, sustainability and semiotics in TXDN 1104; material culture theory, crafts, exhibition design and semiotics in fashion textiles in FTXD 2102. Dissertation supervision to third year Fashion Buying students.

Previously: Analysis of the history of the fashion system, the development of ready-to-wear clothing, fashion retail and fashion history as well as gender/ class/ subculture semiotics of clothing for CULT 1200 Fashion Buying first year students; Design history for first year product, furniture and graphic design students; material culture theory and sustainability for second year students; specialist modules on museum and exhibition interpretaition, crafts history and theory, retail history, architecture history and landscape history; third year dissertations/ extended essays.

‘Heritage Augmented Reality Investigation’ RIF project Round 3, to establish a Roman Leicester phone app with geographical positioning of 3D virtual artefacts from archaeological excavations and reconstructions of buildings, working with Jewry Wall Museum, September 2011-July 2012: Co-worker in project.
